Inter-Act Theatre Profile
Inter-Act Theatre is a nonprofit Society committed to the preparation and presentation of social theatre of current social and health issues.
Our goal is to encourage people to find positive ways of dealing with life’s difficult situations. We are called Inter-Act Theatre because we explore interpersonal relationships among people and promote interactions between the players and the audience in the process of the seeking solutions to life’s difficulties.
Social Theater projects are created in a variety of ways. Sometimes a single playwright writes them. Other times they are improvised collectively by a group of actors. Various combinations of these two approaches are also use.
Generally, social theater involves interaction between the players and the audience. Ideally interaction is integrated with the script. As an example a character will pause and consult with the audience as to how they would improve the outcome of the social issue. Or the audience or members will replace the player taking on the role with their new ideas and solutions. Other times the entire audience will be called upon for their input for examples as the jury in a court scene. Minimally the play will be followed by dialogue between the players and the audience, while the player stays in character.
